NAUTICAL BOTTOM DETECTION IN SHALLOW WATER: CASE STUDY PATIMBAN PORT

The nautical bottom is defined as a limit at the bottom of the sea water column that can provide navigational disturbances and damage to the ship's hull. This limit cannot be detected accurately using acoustic method but rather detected using rheological measurements. However, current techno...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/67103 The nautical bottom is defined as a limit at the bottom of the sea water column that can provide navigational disturbances and damage to the ship's hull. This limit cannot be detected accurately using acoustic method but rather detected using rheological measurements. However, current technology has not been able to provide more efficient measurements compared to the acoustic method, specifically in a large area. This study aims to define the nautical bottom in the Patimban Port Development Area by by combining data from sediment sampling, measuring electromechanical methods (free fall cone penetrometer), and measuring acoustic methods (dual frequency single beam echosounder). The results show that the nautical bottom in the Patimban waters could be defined by determining the relationship between yield stress and seabed sediment density. The nautical bottom in this study area is defined by density values ranging from 1.29 t/m3 to 1.32 t/m3 and yield stress ranging from 0.01 kPa to 0.10 kPa. text
