Summary:In the era of technological advance, the presence of e-learning application that provides convenience in learning on the mobile version is extremely needed, since almost all Vocational High School (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri; SMKN) students today always interact with their smartphones when studying. For them, the role of mobile e-learning application is like an additional supplement; it offers complementary materials. With the presence of such application, students can be more active in independently finding additional materials anytime and anywhere if they feel that the materials obtained at school are still lacking. However, a number of SMKN students still find it difficult to access e-learning application and feel uncomfortable with its user interface as the user-friendliness aspects in the UI design have not been put into careful consideration. Over time, it is now possible to find e-learning applications that pay attention to the UI design aspects of their mobile version, such as Skill Academy and Pijar Mahir. The increasing number of students downloading these two applications is suspected to be due to the display of their UI design that can help them in their learning process. The arrangement of user-friendly UI design in mobile e-learning applications is extremely important as it can assist students and facilitate the flow for students to understand the material. A well laid out UI design will certainly give a different learning experience, compared to a plain one. This study aims to identify the effect of arranging UI design elements on learning comfort for SMKN students. The data analysis applied mixed methods. The quantitative method used experimental study to examine data in the form of questionnaires compiled from UI design theory and UEQ +, with the respondents being students majoring in Visual Communication Design (Desain Komunikasi Visual; DKV) at SMKN Purwosari Bojonegoro. Meanwhile, the qualitative method was a theoretical study of UI and usability. The results of the study using one way ANOVA statistical test showed that the arrangement of UI design elements in mobile e-learning applications has a significant effect in providing learning comfort for SMKN students. The convenience of learning for SMKN students can be built because the user-friendliness aspects of UI design elements, which include layout, color, typography, and images, have been fulfilled in both applications. It can be said that SMKN students will feel comfortable in learning independently when the UI design on a mobile e-learning application is able to provide 4 aspects related to quality of content, novelty, attractiveness, and usefulness.
