Summary: | The high price of motion capture systems on the market has led few hospitals, health agencies and rehabilitation centers to use them for financial reasons. This is unfortunate considering that the motion capture system can provide quantitative data showing the characteristics of a person's gait. The ITB Biomechanical Research Team has been trying to develop an affordable and portable motion capture system since 2008. The advent of action cameras offers an affordable and portable alternative to existing motion capture systems. This study aims in improving the performance of action cameras in motion analysis to compete with existing motion analysis systems at market.
Action camera performance improvements will be made by adjusting the human body model and adapting data processing program. The improved GoPro camera kinematics data results was then compared to existing human gait dataset reference. The performance being compared is in the form of calculated gait angle kinematics parameters, especially in the segment of the foot that undergoes significant changes for adjustment.
The joint angle results obtained are very good in terms of movement patterns/trends considering the total changes made in the modeling of the human body and data processing carried out. The angle results obtained have similar movement patterns/trends to the reference dataset, although there are slight differences in amplitude in some areas. Programs that can facilitate user needs in data processing have been successfully developed by the author.
