Inside plant growth chamber, microclimate parameters such as temperature, humidity and light intensity can be controlled at an optimal range for plant growth. Previously, researchers from STEI, SITH, and PT. East West Seed Indonesia (Ewindo) has observed the growth of chili cultivations in parallel using the same chili seeds at 2 different locations. At the first location on ITB Ganesha, chili seeds were grown in a plant growth chamber (made by STEI researchers) by SITH ITB researchers, while at the second location in Ewindo Purwakarta, chili seeds were grown in a screenhouse under sunlight. From the measurement results, it appears that the height and number of leaves of chili cultivations in the Ewindo Purwakarta screenhouse is much better than that chili cultivations in SITH plant growth chamber. From this experiment, a conclusion was derived that the growth of chili cultivations would be better if they received high-intensity sunlight spectrum lighting, which was followed up in this thesis research. Based on this background, a solution was designed and implemented in the form of a plant growth chamber system with broad spectrum and high intensity lighting. After comparing number of lighting sources (lamps), it has been selected the Horticultural typed LED (Light Emitting Diode) components which have a broad light spectrum from 400 - 780 nm. Then the broad-spectrum LED light is set to have the high intensity of about tens of thousands of lux, which required for optimal chili cultivations growth while minimizing the heat dissipation generated so that the microclimate conditions in the growth chamber can still be controlled. The system has succeeded in monitoring and controlling microclimate parameters on a regular basis, observing visually plant growth conditions in it, and can be accessed by onsite users, as well as remote users through gateways, cloud servers, and mobile or website applications. The system successfully controls the microclimate in the temperature range of 5-50oC (lights off) and 10-50oC (lights on), humidity 40-90%RH, and light intensity up to 15,000 lux.
