Summary: | Food security is a condition when the needs of food are fulfilled for everyone, qualitatively or quantitatively. It is a very important aspect for the development of a region because food is a primary need and one of humanity's rights. One condition to make sure that food security can happen is through food self-sufficiency, which is a region’s capability to fulfill the needs of food for its people. However, Bogor has not developed its food self-sufficiency to its best capacity. It can be seen as to how the people still depend on other cities for food supplies. The supply from other cities makes the food’s price higher yet not in a really good condition anymore because of the long logistical process. If one day this supply chain were to be cut off, then Bogor would find a problem maintaining its food supplies. On the other hand, the income of the local farmers is below the expectation because the potential of their products are not so much recognized by the local people and also because of the farmers’ low knowledge and poor facilities to promote their own products. Therefore, to facilitate the local farmers to promote their products and to educate people about the local foods, a commercial space as an architectural contribution which has a space for production and an information center can be one of many solutions to this problem. This project is located in Jl. Megamendung-Ciawi, Sukamahi, Megamendung, Bogor with an area of 12.500 m2 in total. This project is initiated by Toko Tani Indonesia who is also the manager of the facility in collaboration with the local people and government. The facilities which will be designed to be in the facility are the education area including a visitor center, a greenhouse, and nursery. Then, there is a production area including a workshop and the production space. Lastly, there will also be a commercial area including a restaurant, retails, and a farmers market. |
