Description
Summary:Early education is essential for building an individual’s basic foundation in life. One of the main sources of education is in the form of school. The Indonesian government has set education obligations starting from elementary school. However, the quality which tends to stagnate at the bottom of the list causes concern. One of the problems is because of an undeveloped infrastructure. Even though right now there are various changes that certainly have an impact on the education system, currently, the majority of school buildings in Indonesia still use guidelines that were made in the 19th century with a teacher centered learning education system. This discrepancy causes delays in education and hinders the growth and development of Indonesian children. Therefore, it is important to rethink school, reviewing the design of elementary schools that can accommodate user behavior and integrate with the digital era. This thesis uses data collection methods from literature studies and field observations. Based on the literature study, it was found that the design criteria for the active learning environment especially on experiential learning and the types of learning spaces in the digital era are divided into 7 criteria, which are flexibility & functionality, a sense of community, active setting, individuality, naturalness (healthy environment), comfort, and innovative – conventionality. In general, the criteria applied are carried out to accommodate the needs of an effective teaching and learning process for generation Z and Alpha with the concept of an active learning environment in the digital era. Through this concept, this school has a new trend that gives children the freedom to choose what they learn, hoping from an early age, they can focus more on their self-interests and carry out in-depth explorations to be ready to face challenges in the future.
