The community's decision to practice open defecation is also influenced by psychosocial factors. Interventions to change behavior are usually complex, involving many interacting components (Michie et al., 2013). This study aims to determine the influence of psychosocial factors that can mediate the relationship between individual characteristics and open defecation behavior in North Bassesangtempe District. The dependent, mediating and independent variables were reduced using the PCA (Principal Component Analysis) method furthermore were tested by regression techniques and mediation analysis using a process macro non-parametric statistical test. The results found that psychosocial factors can perfectly mediate the relationship between individual characteristics and open defecation behavior. The psychosocial attitude factor has a very large effect (where the value of ? = 0.1798) on the practice of open defecation. The more the individual thinks that the practice of defecating in the latrine takes less time, the more the individual wants to practice defecation in the latrine, as a result, the number of open defecation practices can decrease. Norm psychosocial factors also have a significant effect on open defecation behavior (where the value of ? = 0.1126). The more the individual is embedded in his mind that the practice of defecating in the latrine is a must/obligation, the more that individual will practice defecating in the latrine, as a result, the number of open defecation practices can decrease. Individual characteristics through psychosocial self-regulation factors have a significant effect but are not in line with open defecation behavior. This can be proven by the negative value of the effect index ? -0, 0648. The higher the individual characteristic index value through psychosocial self-regulation factors, the higher the number of open defecation practices. Based on the results of the BCT analysis, commitment will increase along with the increase in individual awareness of the importance of defecating in the latrine. Health promotion campaigns regarding the goal of building latrines need to be improved. text |
