Description
Summary:Thermal characteristics study of organic PCM Lauric Acid (LA) as latent thermal energy storage was carried out by experimental and simulation methods on spherical geometry with three size variations. Experiments using an air bath with a constant temperature. Three temperature sensors are placed inside the ball and two on the ball's surface. Simulation using Ansys fluent student version 2022 R1. The surface temperature from the experimental results is used as the simulation input. In addition, experimental data for the thermophysical parameters of LA from previous studies. The effect of gravity and the mechanism of heat transfer between PCM and the environment on the absorption and release of sensible heat and latent heat was studied based on data from 9 temperature sensors inside the sphere in horizontal and vertical configurations from the simulation results. In addition, the effect of the size of the ball on the melting and solidification period was also studied, as well as the characteristics of the Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC).
