Therefore, the wear resistance of austenitic stainless steel needs to be improved to avoid failure due to wear during use. Hardness is one of the mechanical properties that can affect the wear resistance of austenitic stainless steel. Hardness test and pin on disk wear test are carried out to determine hardness value and wear resistance of austenitic stainless steel. The wear resistance value is obtained from the mass loss of the specimen after wear test. The less mass loss, the higher the wear resistance of the austenitic stainless steel. In this study, AISI 321 austenitic stainless steel was subjected to cold rolling reduction variations to provide plastic deformation. Plastic deformation by cold rolling method causes martensitic transformation in austenitic stainless steel. The formed martensite phase causes the austenitic stainless steel hardness to increase. The wear resistance of austenitic stainless steels increases at low rolling reduction rates from 0% to 10%. If the thickness reduction in rolling is too high, which is above 10%, it causes the stainless steel to become brittle so that the mass loss increases and the wear resistance decreases. text |
