Summary: | Sidoarjo Mud Volcano or famously known as Lumpur Lapindo (Lapindo Mud) is a natural disaster of hot mudflow that occurs due to inappropriate mining activities. This incident was a traumatic event for the people of Sidoarjo, especially for the victims who lost their homes and jobs. In this disaster, there was a lot of hot mud waste that came out and until now it has not been used for recycling. However, studies on the utilization of Sidoarjo mud waste have not been widely carried out. According to the results of research from a structural point of view, the use of sewage sludge as a building material is also not as strong as conventional materials. But their application can be placed on the decoration and ornamentation. Therefore, the contribution that can be made by architecture is the creation of an educational building in the form of a museum that accommodates the development of knowledge by utilizing local materials. Museums as a place to provide education that can be easily understood by the public and a research center is a place to carry out further developments about this extraordinary phenomenon. Supporting environmental issues at the same time, the museum is designed using materials that reuse the accumulated Sidoarjo mud waste. This project consists of a typology of museum functions with exhibition spaces arranged using a story-telling strategy based on synchronic and diachronic aspects, and laboratory spaces that support the development of studies and research. The site is placed adjacent to the location of the Sidoarjo mudflow to facilitate study and at the same time as a memorial park that functions as a tourist attraction. In its design, this museum building will use the concept of brick modular blocking. |
