The data used are taken from the CTD SBE 19 Plus-V12 recording data at a depth of 0-4000 ms taken during the Transitional Season II on October 21, 2013. The structure of the thermocline layer is described in two ways to determine the distribution value of the upper and lower limits using the assumption that there is a temperature difference greater than or equal to 0,05ºC/m (Bereau) and 0,1°C/m (Sprintall). Temperature and salinity data were visualized using the ODV 4.7.3 device. The results of data processing show the distribution of surface temperature in the range of 28 – 30 °C and the distribution of salinity which is not so significant in the range of 33.6 – 34.6 psu. With the Sprintall method, the average thickness of the thermocline layer is 236.5 ms with the smallest thickness at station 7 of 192 ms and the thickest at station 12 of 307 ms. The average upper limit of the thermocline layer is at a depth of 30.8 ms with a temperature of 29.01°C and the average lower limit of the thermocline layer is at a depth of 267.3 ms with a temperature of 11.92°C. Meanwhile, based on the Bereau method, the average thickness of the thermocline layer is 266.05 ms with the largest thickness at station 7 of 345 ms and the smallest thickness being at station 15 of 205 ms. The average upper limit of the thermocline layer is at a depth of 26.75 ms with a temperature of 29.17°C and the average lower limit of the thermocline layer is at a depth of 292.8 ms with a temperature of 10.90°C. The water masses identified in the Banda Sea are South Pacific Intermediate Water (SPIW), Seram - Banda Water (SBW), Australian Mediterranean Water (AAMW), Southern Subtropical Lower Water (SSLW), Banda Intermediate Water (BIW), and Antarctic Intermediate Water (AAIW). text
