GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF HERMETIA ILLUCENS (DIPTERA: STRATIOMYIDAE) LARVAE ON COCONUT DREGS
Hermetia illucens (BSF) larvae (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) are insects that can reduce various organic wastes. Coconut dregs is an organic waste produced from the manufacture of coconut milk and virgin coconut oil. Indonesia is a country that has an average coconut dregs waste of 3.3 million tons/year....

Coconut dregs is an organic waste produced from the manufacture of coconut milk and virgin coconut oil. Indonesia is a country that has an average coconut dregs waste of 3.3 million tons/year. This causes the waste dregs need to be recycled so that it can be used as feed for Black Soldier Fly larvae. This study objected to examine the growth performance of Black Soldier Fly larvae fed coconut dregs. BSF larvae aged 6 days were fed with coconut dregs at feed rates of 12,5 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg, and 200 mg/larvae/day, the use 100 mg/larvae/day chicken food as control and replicated for each treatment 4 times. Life period, larvae weight, wet and dry weight of the remaining feed were observed every 2 days. The data obtained are used to study the growth rate, consumption rate, waste reduction, and feed efficiency. The results showed that BSF larvae fed with 200 mg coconut dregs had a life period of 22 days with the largest larval weight (117,24 ± 11,54 mg). However, the growth rate of BSF larvae was slightly lower (5,64 ± 0,91 mg/day) from the control. The highest CR value was achieved by larvae fed 200 mg of coconut pulp (6,256.36 ± 666,98 mg/day). From this research, it can be concluded that coconut dregs with a feeding rate of 200 mg/larvae/day tend to be very good to be used as feed for BSF larvae. text |
