The increasing demand for electrical energy and environmental issue has led to an
increasing the use of renewable and environment friendly electrical energy sources.
One of them is the sunlight utilization. Energy from the sunlight can be converted
into electrical energy using solar cell devices. The most widely used is silicon-based
solar cells with the disadvantage of high material processing cost. Many research
with the aim ofsolving this problem resulting in low-cost solar cell technology, one
of which is dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) with ZnO-based semiconductor. The
high band gap causes ZnO as a photoactive electrode to operate only in the visible
light region. with a high band gap (?3,3eV), ZnO can only absorb light in the
ultraviolet region. Fe3O4/ZnO material derived from zinc dross, the galvanization
industrial waste, has a lower band gap so it can absorb visible light better than
pure ZnO. XRD characterization results showed that Fe3O4/ZnO could be
synthesized from zinc dross precursor by hydrometallurgical method. The SEM
images showed an increase in particle size due to agglomeration after calcination
process. The performance test of solar cells showed an increase in efficiency in
solar cells with photoactive material Fe3O4/ZnO from zinc dross compared to pure
ZnO. In addition, the presence of dye increases the efficiency and the calcination
process reduces the efficiency of the solar cells is also discussed in this study. |
