The process of going in and out of water can cause changes in the water level in the sediment pond. Water in the sediment pond gives the dam a compressive force and seepage. Changes in water level cause changes in the forces acting on the sediment pond dam affecting the dam's stability. This study aims to calculate the factor of safety of the dam from the effect of changes in air level on the stability of the sediment pond dam with a laboratory-scale physical model and PT XYZ Bauksit sediment pond. The factor of safety calculation uses finite element method and limit equilibrium method. Differences in both factors of safety are analyzed to determine the most appropriate approach to predict dam stability. Finite element method analysis uses Rocscience RS2 software, while limit equilibrium method analysis uses Rocscience Slide2 with steady-state analysis features to determine water seepage in the dam body. Mining companies can plan sediment pond designs more carefully by knowing the effect of water level changes on the sediment pond dam's stability and the most appropriate analysis method. text |
