Description
Summary:The mining sector in Indonesia consists of mineral, metal, coal, oil and gas mining businesses. Indonesia ranks second after China for tin resources and reserves. Indonesia's tin mining is mostly located in the Bangka Belitung Islands, and strongly supports the economic structure by provide the largest distribution for the top-four Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in Bangka Belitung Province. Meanwhile, if it combined with base metal processing, it will greatly affect 20.89% of the GRDP’s Bangka Belitung Province. However, the economic growth of Bangka Belitung Province was in the bottom-three with a value of 4.74%. It means Bangka Belitung Province has a dependence with tin mining commodities. The other literature states that the mining sector cannot support other top- sectors even though it is a leading sector, so that other sectors have negative values due to the mining sector. Generally, research on the resource curse is related to economic aspects, such as economic growth, GRDP, and exports. Therefore, a resource curse analysis of Bangka Belitung Province will be carried out based on the economic aspect. Constraints in the economic aspect will affect the other aspects such as environmental and social aspects, those are three aspects as main components in a sustainable development system. Nowadays, studies on the resource curse in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands are still experiencing pros and cons, so this study aims to see the relationship between the potential of resource curse and sustainable development based on the tin commodities, and the relationship between sustainable development indicators and the economic growth of Bangka Belitung Province. The purpose of this research is to establish a model of sustainability and resource curse based on tin mining in the Bangka Belitung Province to see the relationship between sustainable development that can increase the economic growth in the Bangka Belitung Province. Therefore, the method used is an econometric analysis with a panel data approach, which utilizes data on economic growth, leading sector of GRDP, human development index, and environmental quality index. The results of this study will indicate whether there is a potential Resource Curse in the Bangka Belitung Province and whether there are obstacles to sustainable development in the Bangka Belitung Province based on tin mining.
