PT Everbright use high technology machines, laboratory for product testing, and standard operating procedures to maintain the quality of the product. However, there were still defective products produced by the finishing station in producing the UM-3 battery. Therefore, the DMAIC methods (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control) are applied in this research to improve the capability of finishing station. In the first stage of the DMAIC, several factors and sub-factors are defined using delphi method that cause defects of the UM-3 battery. In the second stage, the capacity, stability, and production capabilities existing are measured. The sigma level of the finishing station is less than six sigma so that it proceeds to the analyze stage. In the third stage, two sub-factors were selected by using FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis) method based on the severity, occurrence, and detection of each sub-factors. These two sub-factors were analyzed using 5 whys method and obtained two root causes of defective products, the first is the use of the serrated wheel on the semi battery hopper and second is the absence of a special line for the body jacket when entering the gear of the serrated wheel. In the fourth stage, the semi-battery hopper design is improved by changing the serrated wheel to a decagonal wheel. The body jacket hopper also improved by adding a special line for the body jacket when entering the serrated wheel. The control stage has not been carried out in research because the improvement design has not been implemented by the company. text
