Summary: | Indonesia is one of the countries with an abundance of biodiversity. There are 30,000 types of flora that can be found in Indonesia and 940 types of flora in Indonesia have been identified as active compounds. One of the herbal plants found in Indonesia is Orthosiphon aristatus (Cat's Whisker). O.aristatus is known as a herbal plant and has been used as a medicine for various diseases by the people of Indonesia. This is supported by the abundance of bioactive compounds found in O. aristatus from the flavonoid, chromene, phenolic sacid, and terpenoid groups. The O.aristatus sample used in this study is from Solo, Central Java. In this study, methylripariochromene A (1) have been isolated from the chromene group, ageratoriparine (2) from bichromene group, and 5-hydroxy-3,7,4'-flavone (3) from the flavonoid group obtained from the acetone extract of the O.aristatus using vacuum liquid chromatography and radial chromatography methods. The isolated compounds structure determined by NMR (1D and 2D). This is the first time reported that ageratoriparine (2) and 5-hydroxy-3,7,4'-flavone (3) have been isolated from O.aristatus. One of the compounds, methylripariochromene A (1), was then tested for its activity against caspase-3. The assay result shows that methylripariochromene A (1) inactively inhibits caspase-3 activity. |
