L. punctata is a duckweed that has various potential in the health industry because the plant extract contains flavonoids that can be used as antioxidant compounds. However, the metabolite production process in duckweed plants is still considered less than optimal, especially in yield and production costs. Elicitation is a common method used in plants to increase the production of flavonoid compounds in L. punctata. Chitosan is an inexpensive, biodegradable, and non-toxic elicitor obtained from deacetylation of chitin. Chitosan is an elicitor that can induce plant defense systems and increase the biosynthesis of phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids. In this study, the concentrations of chitosan used were 0 (control), 50 mg/L, 100 mg/L, and 200 mg/L. L. punctata was cultivated for 21 days in a 50% AB mix medium (hydroponic plant nutrition) with the addition of chitosan on the 11th day. The results showed that increasing the concentration of chitosan could inhibit were obtained in the control variation with values of 0.182 ± 0.004 day-1 and dt of 3.820 ± 0.074 days. The addition of chitosan 50 mg/L can increase the total phenolic and flavonoid compounds compared to other variations with total phenolic content is 133.56 ± 3.61 mg GAE/g plant extract (2.4 times higher than control) and total flavonoid content is 91.321 ± 4.04 mg QE/g plant extract (2.8 times higher than control). Antioxidant activity in the elicitation with chitosan 50 mg/L gave the highest antioxidant activity with an Inhibitory Capacity (IC50) value is 22.36 ppm. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the addition of chitosan as an elicitor can be an alternative solution to increase the production of phenolic and flavonoid levels in L. punctata plants as antioxidant compounds. text
