In this study, L. minor was cultivated using chitosan as an elicitor to increase production of secondary metabolites. Cultivation was carried out for 21 days in a medium of 50% AB Mix with varying amounts of chitosan concentration; 0 (control), 50 mg/L, 100 mg/L, and 200 mg/L. Growth kinetics were assessed based on the relative growth rate and doubling time based on the measurement of the fresh weight. The analyses on yield of phenolic compounds and yield of flavonoid compounds were performed using the Folin-Ciocalteu assay and the aluminum chloride colorimetric assay, respectively. Analysis of the antioxidant activity was performed using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay. In this study, a chitosan concentration amounting to 0 (control) resulted in the best growth rate and the fastest doubling time i.e. 0.191 ± 0.010 per day and 3.640 ± 0.180 days. The maximum extraction yield of phenolic and flavonoid compounds was obtained at 200 mg/L concentration amounting to 153.98 ± 30.8 mg GAE/g extracts (1.94 times compared to the control) and 70.03 ± 14.0 mg QE/g extracts (2.44 times compared to the control). The highest antioxidant activity was obtained using a chitosan concentration of 200 mg/L with an IC50 value of 42.5 ppm. Based on this study, it can be concluded that the addition of chitosan as elicitor can increase the yield of phenolic and flavonoid compounds in L. minor. text
