To solve this problem, the government of Indonesia has made some programs to organize the informal settlers both the legal and illegal ones. One of the project that was made by DKI Jakarta Government is a project to relocate informal settlers in Kampung Walang into vertical housing owned by the government in Kampung Tongkol. The settlers from Kampung Walang are mostly working as Scavengers who collect trash around the area. Similar project has been done by the government in other areas in Indonesia which involves relocating informal settlers into vertical housings, however several evaluations has come up to the surface regarding the outcome. One of them is the limited ability of the settlers to pay the rent. This evaluation is also supported by the testimony of people in Kampung Walang who are feeling anxious and worried that they might lose their daily income as scavengers once they are being relocated. This would lead to their biggest fear that they might not be able to pay the rent. Therefore, this project aims to integrate the plan to relocate the informal settlers into affordable vertical housing with a supporting source of income facility. This facility is a recycling facility for plastic trash into Interlocking Brick Modules and Recycled Plastic Board. The main material is the plastic trash that was collected by the settlers who works daily as scavengers. With this facility, it is expected that the settlers will have a sustainable income and also a useful skill in recyling plastic trash. The result of the recycling process (Interlocking bricks and Recyled plastic boards) will be used and displayed as the main material of the vertical housing. Therefore, it is hoped that this complex of vertical housings will have a heavy characteristic of scavengers which can be seen from the used materials and the activity that happens in it. text
