INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/68218 The Indonesian Daily is a Jakarta-based English daily established in 1983. After more than 36 years of experience in journalism and the media industry, The Indonesian Daily is struggling to overcome the effects of digital disruptions, which continue to impact the company. In December 2019, The Indonesian Daily made a decision to give the business enough leverage to sustain its operations after several years of consecutive losses. This led to a new business model for The Indonesian Daily. At the time, the business had three options going forward: 1) Cease operations; 2) New Investor; and 3) Cut more than 50% of operational costs and refocus efforts with bare-minimum resources, which implies returning to The Indonesian Daily’s business core expertise. For the purpose of this final project, this research is meant to document the steps taken toward the final business strategy implemented by The Indonesian Daily in order to survive in the current global media landscape. The author analyzed the external environment (using PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, Customer Analysis and Competitor Analysis) and the internal environment (using Resource-Based View with VRIO Framework, Value Chain Analysis, Business Model Canvas, and Internal Interview). SWOT Analysis was then used to capture and summarize the internal and external environments. Ishikawa Diagram / Fishbone Analysis was used to find the root cause of the problem, while In-depth interviews were also conducted with the internal management of The Indonesian Daily, and customers of The Indonesian Daily from the perspectives of the readers and advertisers as a qualitative research methodology. The formulated business strategy was crafted using the diamond strategy. Then, the implications of the diamond strategy was captured in the new Business Model Canvas. text |
