ADSORPTION RHODAMINE B USING ALGINATE/PVA/FE3O4

Rhodamine B is a cationic dye derived from xantene which is widely used in the textile and colored paper industry. Rhodamine B waste pollutes the environment due to its toxic properties so it could harm living things. Adsorption is one of the method for dye removal. It has the advantage of being an...

It has the advantage of being an easy, simple and low cost process. Alginate is an alternative biosorbent that has been widely used to remove dyes in waste water. Alginate can be combined with synthetic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Fe3O4. In this research, an alginate/PVA/Fe3O4 adsorbent has been made which is used for rhodamine B adsorption. The adsorbent has been characterized using Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The adsorption of rhodamine B using 0.1 gram of adsorbent with the batch method. The adsorption optimum conditions is achieved at pH 3 and 180 minutes. The adsorption process of rhodamine B followed the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics model and the Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 2,45 mg/g. The thermodynamic study resulted in a negative ?G which indicating that the process was spontaneous, an endothermic process with ?H = 9,76 kJ/mol and ?S = 0,13 kJ/mol K which indicated that the degree of randomness of the system was increasing. Alginate/PVA/Fe3O4 adsorbent has been used in 2 adsorption-desorption cycles using 0.01 M HCl as a desorption solution. text
