Description
Summary:Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the increasing phenomena in this modern time and the usage of AI in the visual art world is no exception. One of the phenomena is Ai-Da, a robot claimed by "her" creator as the first ultra-realistic robot which can draw, paint and create 3d artworks. This study analyzed the process of creating art and creativity in the Ai-Da robot. It also studied Ai-Da's creativity and role in creating her art. This analysis referred to Ai-Da's significant art development from 2019 until 2022. The researcher used a qualitative interdisciplinary approach and secondary data. Using compositional interpretation, there was a development in Ai-Da’s art when analyzing compositional elements in her art. It was also seen in the technique used by Ai-Da. After 3 years of development, Ai-Da then painted on her own using her robotic arm. In creating her art, the team still used humans (artists, programmers, and researchers) in the process when Ai-Da couldn’t do some parts on her own. Therefore, who deserved to be called as an artist was the creator of Ai-Da. In the ways of creativity, Ai-Da could achieve exploratory methods, but couldn’t do in combination and transformation ways. Ai-Da couldn't be considered as creative although almost fulfilling most of the criteria: finding novelty, surprising or unpredictable, and having values. It is as other factors: artificial intelligence has no consciousness, desires, preferences, or value. Albeit Ai-Da could be “seen as creative” since imitated the ways of creativity and criteria itself.
