| Summary: | Marine tourism is a tourism activity that relies on the natural attractiveness of the coastal and marine environment, either directly or indirectly. In the development of marine tourism, it is necessary to develop a good strategy to achieve the desired goals. This study aims to determine the potential for marine tourism in Pangandaran Beach, especially in the western part and determine whether the tourism is safe for tourist areas and the surrounding environment. The method used is the Tourism and Cultural Ecosystem Index (IWEB) in which there is a calculation of accessibility, near densely populated areas, tourism suitability index, and recreational use used to determine coastal tourism. The data used were obtained from field observations and secondary data. Where the data consists of biophysical and oceanographic factors consisting of water depth, current speed, beach slope, beach width, beach type, land cover, and dangerous biota. Calculations obtained from the beaches in the three villages (Ciliang, Cibenda, and Sukaresik) yield a value of 70% which means high for coastal tourism, although the currents and tides vary with the seasons but are still included in the same score so that the value obtained is still the same. From the results of the risk value matrix these three beaches get a value of 9-10 which means they are not safe in the level of safety. After converting the IWEB value and the Risk Value Matrix, the results obtained are 6-10 for the level of tourism suitability, so the area has the potential to be used as beach tourism as an object of marine tourism even though it is not safe for swimming tourism. The tourism development that wants to be developed is the construction of a hotel resort that is different from the one that already existed in Pangandaran. This resort hotel provides a complete package with hotels and cottages as well as an international standard sports center and other supports.
