Multigenerational housing is influenced by economic, health, social security, cultural and traditional, ethnicity, and race factors. Living in a multigenerational residence can provide various benefits, including realizing resiliency and sustainability. However, living in multigenerational housing can be a problem under certain conditions because of high social interaction. The high number of occupants and density will trigger conflicts. This study considers the harmony in the Rumah Ahlussahliyyah (101 years old multigenerational housing). This research is qualitative. Physical observations, activity observations, and in-depth interviews were conducted to explain the harmony in Rumah Ahlussahliyyah. In-depth interviews were conducted semi-structured by making a list of questions based on The Model of Multigenerational Housing Harmony. These data were analyzed using qualitative analysis methods. The analysis in this study consists of several stages (1) making a drawing of the house and (2) making in- depth interviews transcript, (3) reducing data by doing open coding, (4) making categories and concepts by doing axial and selective coding, (5) presenting data by figures, diagrams, and tables, (5) verifying data based on the literature review, and (6) drawing conclusions. The harmony of Rumah Ahlussahliyyah occurs because of individual harmony, social harmony, and harmony with the environment. Social activities with high intensity and shared values are the primary keys to achieving harmony in the Rumah Ahlussahliyyah. The existence of social activities cannot be separated from the role of social space. Social space is a "medium" of harmony. Harmony exists because of individual diversity. Individual roles and purpose form diversity, and diversity is the main asset for harmony. Harmony does not form in a short time. Harmony grows over time until dependence arises and mutual value is formed. It can be concluded that harmony is essential to the community's resilience and sustainability. text |
