Description
Summary:Abstract:

In construction, environmental factor influences the serviceability of structure. Some of the environmental factors are wind and earthquake applied as loads to structure. Earthquake load is one of several important factors that has to be included in structural design, especially in the regions with high intensity of earthquake such as Indonesia. In earthquake analysis, the

structure should be designed to resist earthquake loading applied to the structure. Some of the materials that can be used for earthquake-resistant structures are steel and concrete. From these two, steel offers several advantages for structures. There are two types of steel frame

structures designed to resist earthquake load; moment resisting frame (MRF) and braced frame (BF). Braced frame can be divided into concentrically braced frame (CBF) and

eccentrically braced frame (EBF). EBF has more advantages and more powerful in strength, stiffness, and ductility than CBF and MRF.

This final project studied the performance of steel frame with eccentric bracing (EBF), covering type D (D EBF), type K Split (K Split EBF), and type V (V EBF). The objective of this project is to understand and to compare EBF structural performance due to earthquake loading, using pushover curve parameters, inelastic behavior, strength, stiffness, ductility, and performance point. The study also analyzed volume of structural elements to include economical aspect. Therefore, monotonic static load was used for analyzing the structure, and the output is presented as load vs. displacement curves. The observation of this curve indicates significant influence of type of EBF on strength, stiffness, ductility, and

performance point of the structure. From this study, it can be concluded that higher strength, stiffness, ductility, and performance point can be obtained if K Split EBF type was used for every floor.
