QUALITY OPTIMIZATION OF KRAFT LIGNIN BRIQUETTES THROUGH CO-FIRING METHOD WITH WATER HYACINTH/STRAW/RICE HUSK BIOMASS WASTE

Kraft lignin, isolated from black liquor waste, is a promising biomass to be used as a solid fuel. Previous research indicates that kraft lignin briquettes have a calorific value of 5814 cal/g, which is equivalent to coal briquettes. However, the sulfur content still does not meet the SNI standard f...

Previous research indicates that kraft lignin briquettes have a calorific value of 5814 cal/g, which is equivalent to coal briquettes. However, the sulfur content still does not meet the SNI standard for Coal Briquettes (<1%) which is 2.66%. The co-firing method is one of the methods used to reduce sulfur content. The co-firing of kraft lignin with water hyacinth leaves, water hyacinth stems, straw, and rice husks was investigated in this study. According to the results, water hyacinth leaves have the best performance for co-firing with kraft lignin. Water hyacinth leaves were co-fired with kraft lignin in powder form with particle sizes of 0.250 mm and ratios of 90/10, 70/30, and 50/50. The blending is accomplished physically. According to the results, a 70/30 blend of water hyacinth leaves and kraft lignin is the most optimal biomass with characteristics such as low moisture and ash content (1.42% and 7.8%), binderless briquette, sulfur content that meets SNI, and calorific value equivalent to coal. text
