ANALYSIS OF EXTREME RAINFALL ANOMALY IN INDONESIA DURING AUGUST 2021
According to Global Precipitation Climate Project (GPCP) data, rainfall anomaly in Indonesia during August 2021 is extreme (exceed 95th percentile). The cause of the extreme rainfall anomaly is still unknown, so the purpose of this research is to unveil the cause of the extreme rainfall anomaly. Thi...

The cause of the extreme rainfall anomaly is still unknown, so the purpose of this research is to unveil the cause of the extreme rainfall anomaly. This research used Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) method using ERA5 reanalysis data, NCEP-DOE Reanalysis 2, Nino 3.4 index, Dipole Mode Index (DMI), and Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) Index. This research shows that the extreme rainfall anomaly in Indonesia during August 2021 is caused by two reasons: 1) The shift of the rain band from northern Indonesia to the Indonesian region as an effect of a weaker Australian-Asian monsoon, and 2) Warmer Indonesian sea surface temperature that can increase convection activity. text |
