Description
Summary:Indonesia is a country with the most Muslim population reaching 87.2%, so there are many mosques and musalla of various sizes with closed and open types. A mosque is a place to pray and communicate. Communication in the mosque is mostly about important information, so appropriate speech clarity and reverberation time are needed to create a majestic impression on the mosque as a place of worship. However, the recent mosque design prioritizes the visual aspect rather than the audial one. Therefore, there is a need to study speech clarity and reverberation time of various mosque sizes with closed and open types. In this study, the basic geometry of the mosque was made using SketchUp software, and a room acoustic simulation was carried out using I-Simpa software by varying the mosque sizes with closed and open types. The I-Simpa calculation uses the SPPS (Sound Particle Propagation Simulation) method with random modeling mode. The analysis is conducted by reviewing the C50 parameter for speech clarity and the RT15 parameter for reverberation time on various mosque sizes with closed and open types. The results showed that by utilizing the same materials, without sound absorbing materials, the speech clarity in open-type mosques was better than in closed-type ones. The relationship between the volume of mosques, floor area of jamaah, and speech clarity was more linear in closed-type mosques than in open-type ones. For closed-type mosques with a room volume of 125 m3 to 3200 m3, the recommended reverberation time is 3.62 seconds for 1000 Hz of frequency. Meanwhile, the recommended reverberation time for open-type mosques with a room volume of 125 m3 to 8000 m3 is 1.60 seconds for 1000 Hz of frequency. However, it can be more than the stated ones because the open-type mosque simulation has software limitations.
