Summary: | Various studies have stated the importance of digital manufacturing by implementing cyber-physical in production systems. The availability of data by digitizing the factory floor positively impacts productivity, which is represented in real-time. Data availability is vital in controlling production activities in scheduling, assigning, and monitoring production activities on the factory floor. Meanwhile, some make-to-order industries are still recording data manually. This study aims to develop and implement a production activity monitoring system based on the Cyber-Physical Production System (CPPS) using the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and cloud/web service.
The research method is by adapting the existing system transformation stages in CPPS and product development. The first stage of the study is by defining concepts and products that adapt to the current system transformation stages in CPPS. The second and third stages are an extension of prototyping by developing prototypes of IoT devices, databases, and cloud/web services and testing them. The fourth stage is making improvements to support the main functions of the prototype. The fifth stage focuses on prototype testing by involving users to review the suitability of the prototype to company needs.
The implemented CPPS can assist companies in automating data acquisition, detecting productive and non-productive activities, monitoring integrated data remotely and in real-time, and storing historical information on production activities. Data integration is carried out with shared web hosting and ERP systems through APIs that result in monitoring. The results of monitoring the production activity monitoring system have better accuracy than the results of the logbook data.
