EMBANKMENT AND NORMALIZATION AS EFFORT FOR FLOOD CONTROL OF THE BONE DOWNSTREAM RIVER IN GORONTALO CITY

Flooding is a natural phenomenon that occurs due to the inability of the channel to receive the capacity of flowing water, resulting in overflow of water outside the channel to the area around the river such as residential areas, roads and public facilities. Currently, flooding is a special conce...

Currently, flooding is a special concern for Gorontalo City because it has always been flooded in recent years. The city of Gorontalo itself is a highly developed and densely populated area, so that the impact of floods such as material losses can be felt. The location that is used as the focus of the review in this final project is the upper part of the Bone River which is in direct contact with the population density in the sub-districts of the southern city, eastern city, Hulonthalangi and Dumbo Raya. Due to the large watershed of Bone, the upstream of the Bone River is not strong enough to accommodate the flow of water from the downstream river in Bone Bolango Regency when the rainy conditions are quite extreme. With poor drainage channels, sedimentation from upstream, and narrowing of rivers, proper flood control planning is required. In this study, the maximum flood discharge for a return period of 25 years was 889,8 m3/s. The condition of the downstream section of the Bone river which cannot accommodate the discharge causes the area around the river to become flooded. Therefore, the construction of embankments and river normalization is a solution to increase the capacity of the river so that it is sufficient to accommodate and drain water into the sea without flooding the surrounding area which is very densely populated. In addition, gabions are also installed at several points that are prone to erosion according to the sediment transport simulation using Hec-RAS software. text
