Summary: | The PV solar system is one of the most popular renewable energy systems. The use of PV system
has increased in recent years from urban areas to cover remote areas or isolated areas. Along
with the increasingly frequent use of PV power plants, there are obstacles to land use,
especially in island areas, where land has been used for housing and community activity areas,
so that there is no location left for PV power plants placement. Therefore, the PV power plant
is installed above the water surface, known as offshore floating PV.
floating PV and conventional land PV have different ecosystems, so there will be differences
in performance. The performance of the power system is one aspect of choosing which system
is best to apply. In this research, the indicators of the performance of the power system are
system output, availability factor and economic feasibility. The research location is the
Kodingarenglompo island, which is an island located off the coast of Makassar, South
Sulawesi, Indonesia. 3MW is provided as system capacity, which is based on the existing PV
power system on the island.
The system output for both type of PV system calculated and simulated using Matlab Simulink
and copared the output. Availability factor analyst shown how the influence of the intermittent
from solar radiation affects the output power of the offshore floating PV power system. LCoE
analyst using power output from simulation and total cost for PV system obtained from NREL
Benchmark Cost for Floating PV.The research results show that output on offshore floating
PV are higher than conventional PV on land. Availability factor on the Offshore Floating PV
shows the instability of the output power, especially in the rainy season caused by the high
cloud opacity, so that the solar radiation reaching the solar panel surface is also reduced.
Result of LCoE for the Offshore Floating PV lower than conventional Land PV where the value
of LCoE for the Offshore Floating PV lower and conventional Land PV more expensive than
electricity price standar in Indoenseia, especially in Kodingareng Island. |
