Summary: | The Kelapa Gading Roundabout Area with its densely habited space and full of commercial activities opens a potential for a new public facility in the form of a library that can trigger people to meet and interact. The library is a reinforced concrete building that consists of four floors above ground with the maximum elevation of 19m and two levels of basement with a total depth of 7m. To increase the accessibility of pedestrians without interfering the traffic, an elevated walkway is built to connect the library with other buildings around the roundabout. The walkway consists of steel frames and concrete piers.
The basement excavation has a total depth of 9m and it is retained by a secant pile wall with a length of 18m. The secant pile wall is chosen because of its flexibility to be designed for irregular shaped excavation plans, such as an arch. The pile has a diameter of 1000mm and the overlapping between the secondary and primary pile reaches 250mm. Steel struts are used instead of anchors due to the limited land. Analysis of the excavation phases and strut construction is performed with Plaxis2D.
The amphitheatre excavation has a total depth of 3m and it is retained by a non tangent pile wall with a length of 8m. Such type of wall is chosen because it only acts as a retaining wall, without the function of blocking the seepage. The seepage will be retained by the amphitheatre structure itself. The piles are designed with a diameter of 800mm and the distance between the piles is 1100mm. Bored piles are also designed for the amphitheatre structure so it can counter the uplift force. The analysis of excavation phases is performed with Plaxis2D.
Spun piles with hydraulic jack are used for the design of foundations for the library and elevated walkway due to its nature to have minimal effects of sound pollution, vibrational interference and structural damage on surrounding settlements. For the library building, spun piles with a diameter of 800mm and length of 30m are used. For the elevated walkway, the foundation design uses spun piles with a diameter of 1000mm and 16m length. Analysis of lateral capacity for single and group piles is done with the help ofLPILE and GROUP.
