Currently, research on the conversion of biomass to be used as raw material for the manufacture of more useful chemicals is being intensified. The use of organic solvents as a medium in biomass conversion has many drawbacks such as volatility, flammability, toxicity and high volume usage, so a more flexible solvent is needed. Ionic liquid (IL) is an alternative to organic solvents as it is very versatile. One of the many targeted product is formic acid as it is a hydrogen carrier that can be used as a clean fuel. To maximize biomass conversion into formic acid, sodium metavanadate (NaVO3) is used as catalyst. It can be synthesized from V2O5 and NaOH. In this experiment, optimization power, time, and amount of added aqua DM is included. The result shows that the optimum condition in fructose conversion into formic acid using [EMIM]Cl catalyzed with NaVO3 for 8,04% yield of formic acid can be achieved with power of 240 W, reaction time of 3 minute, and addition of 1,04 mL of aqua DM, while a formic acid yield of 9,44% using reused [EMIM]Cl can be achieved with power of 240 W, reaction time of 3 minutes, and addition of 1,5 mL of aqua DM. text
