TRIGONOMETRICAL APPROACH TO CURVED PSEUDO-ELASTIC IMPEDANCE (CPEI) AND PSEUDO-ELASTIC IMPEDANCE – LITHOLOGY (PEI-L) ATTRIBUTE FOR CARBONATE RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION OF BATU RAJA FORMATION, 'PMS' FIELD, SOUTH SUMATRA BASIN

The increase in oil and gas targets by the Indonesian government makes exploration related to hydrocarbons necessary. One of the fields with oil and gas reserves is the 'PMS' field which is in the South Sumatra Basin, and it is part of the Tertiary-aged back arc basin. There are several...

One of the fields with oil and gas reserves is the 'PMS' field which is in the South Sumatra Basin, and it is part of the Tertiary-aged back arc basin. There are several reservoir rocks in this basin, one of them is carbonate rock in the Batu Raja Formation which is the focus of this research. Log data shows the sensitive parameters are both AI and vp/vs. Well log data analysis shows that AI and vp/vs are sensitive elastic parameters. Linear programming sparse spike was done for AI inversion and extended elastic impedance inversion. The inversion results might be biased because the value of AI and vp/vs are not dominant. Thus, the CPEI attribute is used to include the fluid trend and PEI-L which includes the compaction trend. The CPEI attribute has a 0.7457 correlation to water saturation and PEI-L has a -0.8642 correlation to porosity. The results of CPEI and PEI-L are transformed into volume porosity and water saturation. The result showed that the low value of AI, vp/vs, CPEI, PEI-L, water saturation, and as well as high porosity indicate a porous reef build up filled with hydrocarbon fluids at the top of the Batu Raja Formation in the 'PMS' field, South Sumatra Basin. text
