ANALYSIS OF ABUNDANCE AND REGENERATION POTENTIAL OF NATURAL FOOD VEGETATION FOR JAVAN ENDEMIC PRIMATES AT THE GAMBUNG BLOCK, MOUNT TILU NATURE RESERVE

Mount Tilu Nature Reserve (CAGT) is a conservation area where the management collaborates with The Aspinall Foundation (TAF) to carry out primate reintroduction activities. Problems often arise when natural supplies are insufficient which primates are ready to reintroduce into nature. In an effort to provide habitat for animals that will be reintroduction, availability of natural food is one of the key factors in the success of these efforts. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the diversity and natural food species of endemic Javan primates, as gibbons, surili and langurs, then compare the availability of natural food, and determine the potential for regeneration of natural food to endemic Javan animals in Gambung CAGT. Vegetation analysis was carried out using a square plot selected by purposive sampling. The results showed that there were 17 natural endemic primate species of Java in the Block Gambung CAGT consisting of 10 species of seedlings and poles, 11 species of samplings and 16 species of trees with high evenness index and good category of abundance vegetation. The comparison of the availability of natural food for primates is langur feed (76%), gibbon feed (72%) and surili feed (65%). Availability abundance natural food vegetation is value high category, although these three primates endemic to Java benefit from the same species. In general, the regeneration status of the natural food vegetation of the endemic primates of Java shows that 14 of the 17 species are included in the good category in terms of their youth or regeneration phase. text
