Summary: | Many studies have shown a strong influence of tides in the Indonesian waters. Yet on the other
hand, the global and regional operational oceanographic products have not specifically
included the influences of tides in their products. The technical formation to incorporate these
tidal influences in the operational oceanographic products were assessed. Manipulation of
non-tides has been conducted by modifying non-tides data with tidal constituent data. JCOPET
data was used as a reference to verify the result of this ‘manipulation’. This is done because
the JCOPET has already included the tidal influence. Whereas the JCOPE2, HYCOM, and
Mercator datasets, each with 33 days lengths were used as non-tidal data that needs to be
‘manipulated’ by tidal data provided from Tidal Model Driver (TMD). The change from
surface current data to 2D barotropic data improves the non-tidal manipulation correction by
20%. Adding data with involving the data before (t-1) and after (t+1) would have improved the
correlation score to a number greater than 0.8. The manipulation result from HYCOM and
Mercator has not shown a satisfying level of accuracy as compared to JCOPE2 data. We
conclude that this manipulation process is still depend on the type of datasets. |
