Indicator 11.3.1 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as one of the indicators to realize sustainable urban development, offers a measurement of land use efficiency in understanding this phenomenon so that actions can be taken to minimize the adverse impacts of urban growth while maximizing its benefits. This measurement is carried out simply by identifying the relationship between spatial expansion and population change in an urban area, which is formulated as the ratio of the urban land consumption rate (LCR) spatially to the population growth rate (PGR), or called LCRPGR. The LCRPGR value of Java-Bali cities from 1975 to 2015 shows that most of the cities in these islands grew rapidly with the land consumption rate exceeding the population growth rate (LCRPGR › 1), which indicates inefficient urban land use. Compared to the population growth rate, the land consumption rate in Java-Bali had a certain pattern and dynamics in urban growth that occurred, both spatially and temporally. From a spatial perspective, the high land consumption rate occurred in many cities in the eastern part of Java-Bali Island. Meanwhile, from a temporal perspective, the land consumption rate was relatively higher in the period 1990 to 2000. To realize sustainable urban development, it is necessary to review other SDGs' urban indicators to interpret the land use efficiency value. text |

Urban growth, both land expansion and population growth, has occurred rapidly in
the last few decades and is predicted to increase at the global, national and regional
levels, including in Java-Bali Island as the largest urban area in Indonesia.
Uncontrolled urban growth, especially urban sprawl, will result in inefficient services
for urban population. Indicator 11.3.1 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as one
of the indicators to realize sustainable urban development, offers a measurement of
land use efficiency in understanding this phenomenon so that actions can be taken to
minimize the adverse impacts of urban growth while maximizing its benefits. This
measurement is carried out simply by identifying the relationship between spatial
expansion and population change in an urban area, which is formulated as the ratio
of the urban land consumption rate (LCR) spatially to the population growth rate
(PGR), or called LCRPGR. The LCRPGR value of Java-Bali cities from 1975 to 2015
shows that most of the cities in these islands grew rapidly with the land consumption
rate exceeding the population growth rate (LCRPGR › 1), which indicates inefficient
urban land use. Compared to the population growth rate, the land consumption rate
in Java-Bali had a certain pattern and dynamics in urban growth that occurred, both
spatially and temporally. From a spatial perspective, the high land consumption rate
occurred in many cities in the eastern part of Java-Bali Island. Meanwhile, from a
temporal perspective, the land consumption rate was relatively higher in the period
1990 to 2000. To realize sustainable urban development, it is necessary to review other
SDGs' urban indicators to interpret the land use efficiency value. |
