Description
Summary:Geothermal energy is energy that utilizes the heat from the earth’s core. It is a type of renewable energy that is utilized to decrease the usage of Coal-Fired Power Plants (CFPP) by 2030. It is also aimed to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by UNICEF to make the world more sustainable. The SDGs that are aimed to be fulfilled are SDG 7 (ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all) and SDG 13 (climate action). Indonesia has currently utilized 8.9% of the potential geothermal energy capacity that is in the country, and thus is still not generally utilized to this day. To improve the efficiency of the geothermal power plant, one way of doing it is by optimizing the insulation of the pipes in geothermal power plants to decrease the heat loss. Pipeline in geothermal power plants is used to transmit the steam from the production well to the injection well. The pipeline in geothermal power plants need to be able to withstand the temperatures of the steam as it goes through many processes. Although the insulation in conventional insulation pipeline systems have worked quite well in rejecting the heat loss in the pipeline, it may be difficult to construct and expensive. Another type of insulation that could be applicable in geothermal pipeline system is vacuum insulation. In this final project, the author will find an alternative insulation in geothermal pipeline systems. By doing this final project, it is hoped that this design can be used to further reduce the heat loss in geothermal pipeline systems to increase the efficiency of the geothermal power plant.
