To achieve the main objectives of sustainable urban planning and development, New Urban Agenda (NUA) supports the implementation of SGDs 11 by prioritizing urban spatial development management through Planned City Extension (PCE). Five years after the declaration of NUA, the trend of urban sprawl is still happening in Bandung City, especially in its eastern region. The spatial plan should adopt NUA initiatives that contain PCE as a strategy. This study aims to identify spatial development through planned city extension in Bandung City to implement NUA. The results of the analysis show that the spatial plan which controls development in the western region of the city corresponds to its conditions, which have a high population density and heterogeneous land use mix. The spatial plan which encourages development in the eastern region of the city corresponds to its conditions, which have a low population density, less heterogeneous land use mix, and a high new population projection that needs to be accommodated in 2035. Finally, the instruction to restrict development in the North Bandung Region (KBU) corresponds to its conditions that have moderate population density, its function as a protected area, and its topography that is disaster-prone. These spatial planning strategies are actualized in the form of structural and spatial pattern plans as well as zoning regulation techniques which are part of the spatial plan. text |

Urbanization is happening more rapidly, especially in developing country cities.
Uncontrolled urbanization leads to unsustainable growth patterns such as urban
sprawl. To achieve the main objectives of sustainable urban planning and
development, New Urban Agenda (NUA) supports the implementation of SGDs 11 by
prioritizing urban spatial development management through Planned City Extension
(PCE). Five years after the declaration of NUA, the trend of urban sprawl is still
happening in Bandung City, especially in its eastern region. The spatial plan should
adopt NUA initiatives that contain PCE as a strategy. This study aims to identify
spatial development through planned city extension in Bandung City to implement
NUA. The results of the analysis show that the spatial plan which controls development
in the western region of the city corresponds to its conditions, which have a high
population density and heterogeneous land use mix. The spatial plan which
encourages development in the eastern region of the city corresponds to its conditions,
which have a low population density, less heterogeneous land use mix, and a high new
population projection that needs to be accommodated in 2035. Finally, the instruction
to restrict development in the North Bandung Region (KBU) corresponds to its
conditions that have moderate population density, its function as a protected area, and
its topography that is disaster-prone. These spatial planning strategies are actualized
in the form of structural and spatial pattern plans as well as zoning regulation
techniques which are part of the spatial plan. |
