Description
Summary:Forest fires are one of the disturbances that often occur in the forest area of Mount Ciremai. Forest fires cause damage to soil structure which has implications for soil quality degradation. Declining soil quality accompanied by changes in soil characteristics can hinder the natural regeneration of forests. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and chemical characteristics of the soil and their effect on the potential for natural regeneration in the Mount Ciremai National Park area. The method used is purposive sampling to obtain soil samples and data the number of germination in 3 types of vegetation cover, namely natural forest, calliandra, and shrubs. Then the analysis was carried out in the laboratory to determine the physical and chemical properties of the soil in each vegetation cover. The physical parameters analyzed were bulk density, porosity, water content, and soil organic content. The chemical parameters tested were total nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur content. A model of the relationship between soil characteristics and the number of germination was made using regression analysis. The results showed that the physical character of the soil in natural forests had higher porosity, water content, soil organic content and lower bulk density than other vegetation cover. Soil chemical character in natural forest has moderate phosphorus content, high to very high nitrogen content, and moderate to high sulfur content. The soil factors that have an influence on germination are pH and phosphorus content.
