SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT FOR RATING ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF BEVEL AND WORM GEAR

Gear is a power transmission mechanism and is used to transmit power from one equipment to another. There are many different types of gear, including spur gear, spiral gear, bevel gear, and worm gear. Each gear has its own uniqe properties and different approach in determing the rating. However,...

There are many different types of gear, including spur gear, spiral gear, bevel gear, and worm gear. Each gear has its own uniqe properties and different approach in determing the rating. However, gear rating analysis and design is a long and complicated process. Many steps are required. For this reason, it is time-consuming process and is also prone to human error. The focus of this project is to develop a software that can assist in analysis and design process of bevel and worm gear. It is aimed to increase efficiency by reducing the calculation time and increases the accuracy by reducing the possibility of human error. The software is developed by using microsoft excel. Once the software development has been completed, the software will go through verification process. The verification is done by comparing the results from the software with the results from manual calculation. There are 4 case studies to verify the software. The case studies are taken from AGMA example calculation and Shigley book. Two case studies (case study 1 and 2) for bevel gear, and two case studies (case study 3 and 4) for worm gear. Case study 1, 2, 3, and 4 have small difference between the results of the software and the manual calculation. The difference is likely caused by the rounding of the number during the calcualtion. This indicates that the software has been completed. From this project, a software to do analysis and design process of bevel and worm gear has been developed. The software use AGMA standards as the reference. The verification process of the software shows that overall there is mainly small difference. The difference is likely caused by the rounding of the number. text
