Description
Summary:Abstract:

Black glutinous rice is one of the species from Poaceae that has an important economic value. Black glutinous rice is known contain anthocyanin which has several pharmacology activities, such as antioxidant activities. The aim of this research is isolating anthocyanin from black glutinous rice. The powder of crude material was macerated by methanol containing 1% hydrochloride acid. Extract was fractionated by column chromatography using cellulose as stationary phase and buthanol-acetic acid glacial-water (4:1:5; upper layer) as mobile phase. Isolate was characterized by specific reagent, ultraviolet-visible and infrared spectrophotometry. The isolate shows blue spot on the TLC plate with ammonia vapour, maximum absorbance at 278 nm, 322 nm and 541 nm, and infrared spectrum shows presence -OH, -CH, >C= C< aromatic group, and C=O. The isolate was assumed to be an acylated anthocyanin of cyanidin 3 - glycoside tipe with hydroxy group substitution at potition 3.
