(DIPTERA: STRATIOMYIDAE) IN CATTLE BLOOD AND FOOD WASTE Almira Haswara, Irtyafari Indonesia Final Project Bioconversion, Hermetia illucens, Protein, Cattle’s Blood, Proximate INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/69019 Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) is an insect capable of treating various kinds of organic waste. Cattle blood waste is waste originating from abattoirs with a high biological nutrient content, especially protein content. The high protein content contained in cattle’s blood waste can be converted by H. illucens larvae. This study aimed to examine the growth performance and proximate content of H. illucens larvae fed with cattle blood and food waste. H. illucens larvae aged 6 days were fed at a rate of 100 mg/larvae/day at various doses of cattle blood waste (DS) feed treatment 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% with a mixture of food waste and control treatment (chicken feed). The results showed that H. illucens larvae with the influence of cattle's blood feed had a life period of 55-71 days with a survival rate value in the range of 73.21-84.4% reaching the imago phase. High prepupae biomass was produced with a growth rate in the range of 5.38-8.88 mg/day.. Based on the WRI, ECD and AD parameters which indicated the ability of the larvae to digest the substrate, the 20% treatment of cow blood resulted in the larvae having the most optimal substrate digestibility. The results of the prepupa proximate test with 20% DS treatment contained 56.94% protein, 2.09% fiber, 14.06% fat, 22.18% carbohydrates, 64.57% water, 4.73% ash, and 4566 gross energy kcal/kg. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that H. illucens larvae can be used as a bioconverter of cattle blood waste mixed with food waste with a large final larval weight and high protein content. The resulting prepupa biomass can be used as a potential feed product and has high nutritional value. text
