IDENTIFICATION OF THE PRESENCE OF MICROPLASTIC AND MICROBIOLOGICAL PARAMETER IN DRINKING WATER DISPENSER AT GANESHA CAMPUS, BANDUNG INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Water dispenser is an electronic device that often used to store and serve drinking water due to its practicality and convenience. The presence of microplastic contamination in drinking water in dispensers pose health risks to humans as physical hazards, chemicals, and microorganisms. This study...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/69082 Water dispenser is an electronic device that often used to store and serve drinking water due to its practicality and convenience. The presence of microplastic contamination in drinking water in dispensers pose health risks to humans as physical hazards, chemicals, and microorganisms. This study aims to determine the presence of microplastics and its relation to microbiological presence in drinking water in dispensers. The results showed that all samples found the presence of microplastics with a total of 309 microplastic particles from 32 samples. The average presence of microplastics in all samples was 9.49 MP/L particles, while based on the sampling quadrant, the average presence of microplastics in quadrant 1 was 8.38 MP/L particles, quadrant 2 was 9 MP/L particles, quadrant 3 is 7.25 MP/L particles, and quadrant 4 is 12.27 MP/L particles. Based on the shapes characteristics, the most commonly found microplastic was dominated by fiber form with a total of 174 microplastic particles (52.4%) and an average of 4.97 MP/L particles, followed by fragments with a total of 135 MP particles (40.7%). and an average of 3.86 MP/L particles. Based on the colors characteristics, the microplastics found were dominated by blue with a total of 115 microplastic particles (37.8%) and an average of 3.40 MP/L particles. Based on size characteristics, the overall size is dominated by microplastics with a size of 5-500 µm. As for microbiologist parameter, 4 out of the 32 samples (12.5%) contained coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli. Based on the results of the analysis using SPSS, the correlation value between microplastic parameters and total coliforms and Escherichia coli has a correlation coefficient of 0.378 and a significance value of 0.033. This means that there is a significant relationship between the two parameters, but the relationship is low. text
