PERFORMANCE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF WATER-COOLED CHILLER AND VARIABLE REFRIGERANT FLOW FOR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM OF BUILDING (STUDY CASE: OFFICE BUILDING

Air conditioning system in commercial buildings is one of the components that have the largest electrical energy consumption. Therefore, a comparative study was conducted between the VRF (variable refrigerant flow) air system and water-cooled chiller air system for the office building for giving the...

Therefore, a comparative study was conducted between the VRF (variable refrigerant flow) air system and water-cooled chiller air system for the office building for giving the alternative solutions for air conditioning system thus it could be choosen the right air conditioning system to increase the efficiency of electricity consumption. In this undergraduate project, four air systems were selected including the VRF air system (system one), the water-cooled chiller air system with a VSD (variable speed drive) control system at variable flow (system two), the water-cooled chiller system with a VSD control system at constant flow (system three), and a water-cooled chiller system without VSD control (system four). The selection of components in the four systems is carried out based on the available catalog by adjusting component specifications to technical data and building cooling load profile data, each air conditioning system calculates electrical energy consumption based on its components and determines the performance of electrical energy consumption against building cooling loads. Then each system is compared based on its electrical energy consumption and performance. From the analysis process, the comparison results for the electrical energy consumption of each system and performance has been analyzed for cooling loads for one year in office buildings. System two is the system with the best performance 4,23 kWh/kWh and the lowest consumption of electrical energy 597.1 MWh, then system one has electricity consumption of 642 MWh with performance 3,94 kWh/kWh, system three has electricity consumption of 642.2 MWwith performance 3,94 kWh/kWh, and system four has energy consumption of 789.7 MWh with performance 3,2 kWh/kWh. text
