Description
Summary:Bakuchiol is the main component of babchi seed oil (Psoralea corylifolia) which is not only has a high antioxidant effect, but also has a good safety profile. To enhance the mechanism of action of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) on the body, the development of a new drug delivery system which provide the maximum therapeutic effect is needed to carry out, such as in the form of microsponges. In this study will be discussed concerning of formulation and characterization of encapsulation of babchi seed oil in microsponges. Production of microsponges is done by using polivinyl alcohol, ethyl cellulose, dichloromethane, Tween 80, and distilled water using quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion method. Microsponges has a spherical shape and classified as mesoporous particle with sized of 14,92 nm. This microsponges can release 77,33% of API after 6 hours in vitro drug release test and has IC50 of antioxidant activity of 1451,30 ppm determined with DPPH method. The results of microsponges stability test result in room temperature condition and in 40°C temperature with relative humidity of 75%±5% showed that microsponges has a good physical stability, while the results of chemical stability test showed that there is a significant decrease of API content in microsponges.
