EFFICIENCY STUDY OF LEMNA MINOR AS A PHYTOREMEDIATOR OF WASTEWATER AT PENATARSEWU CATFISH CULTIVATION POND, SIDOARJO DISTRICT (BOD, COD, AND NH3)
The catfish pond wastewater has a fairly high concentration of ammonia compounds because catfish feed and catfish manure contain nitrogen. One solution to reduce the nutrient content in catfish pond wastewater is to use Lemna minor. Lemna minor is a floating aquatic plant that usually lives in ri...

One solution to reduce the nutrient content in catfish pond wastewater is to use Lemna minor. Lemna minor is a floating aquatic plant that usually lives in rice fields and swamps. This study aims to determine the efficiency of Lemna minor in phytoremediation of catfish pond wastewater in batch conditions. The study was conducted for 15 days with the independent variable being the weight of Lemna minor and the dependent variables being examined were concentrations of COD, BOD and ammonia. From this study, it was found that the highest levels of ammonia and COD removal occurred at a weight variation of 75 grams or a density of 0.42 kg/m2, namely 80.62% and 29.84%, respectively. Meanwhile, Lemna minor had no effect on reducing BOD in this study because the removal rate under control conditions was greater than the reactor containing Lemna minor. The correlation between the weight of Lemna minor and the decrease in ammonia, COD and BOD concentrations was directly proportional. Because Lemna minor during the observation experienced a reduction in biomass. text |
