Nevertheless, it is poorly soluble, poorly skin penetration, and low antibacterial activity. It requires high doses and causes secondary effects such as skin irritation, erythema, dryness, peeling, and scaling. This study aims to formulate azelaic acid in solid lipid nanoparticles in order increasing antibacterial activity of the azelaic acid. SLN Azelaic acid was prepared by a high-speed homogenization method followed by sonicator. The results showed that the best SLN azelaic acid formulation had composed of azelaic acid (5,4%), beeswax (4%), Tween 80, and plantacare with a ratio of 1:1 (3%), and distilled water (87,6%). Solid lipid nanoparticle azelaic acid was appeared white and odorless, with a particle size of 485,6± 9,51 nm, polydispersity index of 0,258 ± 0,96, zeta potential of ?27,6 ± 4,44, pH of 4,05 ± 0,02, and encapsulation efficiency of 93,3 ± 3,47%. MIC value of SLN azelaic acid is 312,5 µg/ml meanwhile free azaleic acid has MIC value of 1800 µg/ml. The azaleic acid loaded SLN can increase the antibacterial activity of azaleic acid 6 fold. SLN Azelaic acid was also stable at 4o C after 28 days of storage. text
