INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/69170 As a living being, human experience plays quite a significant role in shaping their attitudes and behaviors in socializing. When living life, a person often arranges the persona they displays to meet the status expectations of the role played in one’slife or simply to feel accepted, although it is sometimes contrary to the original nature and personalities of them. The habit of denying and hiding behaviors, characters, traits, and perspectives that are viewed negatively by others gradually becomes an arbitrary demand in social life to the scope of a family. This often narrows the space for human as an individual being; has a unique character with their own mind and free will. However, what will happen if the habit of denying and hiding what is externally viewed as negative then restricts and confines the movement of the human from the process of growth and development to become a better person? As Merleau-Ponty thought that humans need to experience an event first-hand to fully understand it, the author realizes that maintaining a persona gradually impedes self-development and these habits need to be changed. This idea along with strong influences from previous artworks they created, art that has long been a pictorial vehicle to express thoughts becomes the choice of idiom for the author to represent their experience through this final project paintings. In the process, using Carl Jung's psychological theory regarding archetypes that focuses on the ‘shadow’ as a term to describe everything that the author often denies and bury includes traits, personalities, primitive impulses, negative emotions such as anger, envy, greed, selfishness, greed, selfishness, desire, etc. for so long have finally come to a reaching point where they need to be recognized. The approach of art as representation provides opportunity to paint an idea that can be interpreted more than just its visual display aspects. Therefore, these 2D painting series seek to symbolize the recognition of shadow’s presence through the depiction of the author's persona skin being shed, creating room for the hidden and buried sides to show up and be acknowledged using oil paints and the addition of other material text
